An estimated 450,000 young people are bullied each week at school, and a further 500,000 outside of school. These days the problem doesn’t stop at the school gate as many children remain in touch with their school mates via social networking sites, text messaging and email. Although this has many benefits, for example enabling kids to share homework problems or simply reach out to their friends, it also enables bullies to “come home” and attack vulnerable individuals in their own home.
Vodafone UK has joined forces with leading charity Beatbullying and the West End musical Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat starring “Any Dream Will Do Winner” Lee Mead to launch a national anti-bullying campaign.
The campaign aims to give young people (aged 11 - 18) the opportunity to express their thoughts and views on bullying by entering a competition to re-design the famous technicolour dreamcoat. Seven regional coat designs will be chosen and then turned into reality by students from the London College of Fashion and worn on stage by Lee Mead during Anti Bullying Week in November. The winning individuals / groups will be invited to London to see their design worn by Lee Mead on stage and meet the star of the show!
Vodafone is committed to reducing bullying amongst young people. Which is why this is the second consecutive year; Vodafone has pro-actively introduced an anti-bullying campaign. In 2007, Vodafone launched the successful Cut it Out campaign starring Shayne Ward which encouraged teenagers to script a short film about bullying within schools which was shown throughout all Vue cinemas.
Which is where you come in!
In order to make this campaign a success, we need coats! Visit www.cutoutbullying.com to find out more information on the competition and how to get your children or local school involved.
